Secure your players with Disign: Discover the Lock Down mode

September 3, 2024

The release of the new version of Disign OS marks a significant turning point for managing players in the field of digital signage. Built from the ground up, Disign OS is the cornerstone that allows our application to operate in a perfectly tailored environment. This operating system has been developed to deliver optimal performance, unparalleled robustness, and enhanced security through OTA (over the air) firmware updates. This means that even in the event of a power outage, updates continue securely via the internet.

A solid foundation for enhanced security

Unlike systems based on Raspberry Pi OS, Ubuntu/Debian, or even Windows, Disign OS is entirely developed in-house by Disign. This approach ensures a seamless integration and increased security for our digital signage solutions. Disign OS is specially designed to meet the demands of embedded IoT technologies, offering unique flexibility and robustness.

Advanced features for increased security

The Lock Down mode is one of the most notable features we have introduced to help businesses enhance the security of their players. With this feature, administrators can configure players via the Disign studio by sending settings such as WIFI connections and proxy configurations over the internet or via a USB drive.

Another option is connecting through Disign’s secure maintenance network. This network allows our technical team to connect and diagnose potential issues with the players. You can refer to this link for more information about this connection.

When Lock Down mode is activated, the player is locked down to the bare minimum. Campaigns can still be updated, and Disign OS can receive security updates, but any other access or modification is blocked. This feature is ideal for businesses with very high security requirements, though it also reduces agility in managing the players.

Activating and deactivating Lock Down mode

Activating Lock Down mode is straightforward. From the player’s configuration form in the security section, you can enable this mode. It is crucial to configure the player correctly before enabling this feature. Once activated, the only way to deactivate Lock Down mode is to be physically next to the player. You will need to download the configuration with the deactivation secret key, copy it to a USB drive, insert the USB into the player, and restart. Once the player restarts, you will see the pairing code on the screen, indicating that the player is unlocked.

In summary, Lock Down mode allows you to lock your player to the bare minimum, preventing any further remote modifications. Unlocking requires physical presence and a USB deactivation key.

Disign is designed with security at its core. We continue to introduce new features to provide our clients with high-performance and secure digital signage. With Disign, enjoy a solution that combines performance and maximum protection.
